Delivering three monuments to Santa Fe, Nm.

HERE GOES:
I deliver a monument to Texas. After the delivery, the ranch foreman tells me the owner of the place is looking for a monumental buffalo. I make a phone call to the owner about the possibility of creating a monumental buffalo for him. We agree on a price. I’m sculpting the thing.

It begs the question:
How many opportunities have I taken advantage of OR passed by because I did or didn’t listen?

Two months of sculpting / Two more months to go on the clay work.

When I exhibit at an art show, I often take that time to sculpt heads. Heads which I put in a piece later.

We’ll, I’m in Great Falls, Montana, exhibiting at the Western Masters Art Show……

For years I’ve wanted to sculpt an old timely bare knuckle fist fight. My concept is to depict a scene where a traveling pro takes on the local tough guy……and the professional gets “Bested”. I’m working on a composition with two fighters, a referee, and four folks in the crowd.

This is what painters and sculptors do….they take a larger whole and pull from it what makes them go “wow”.

Balance: the arrangement of objects that leaves one contented.
Composition: how one form plays off another to create a feeling.  (Often portrayed by shapes.)

When you look at a sculpture or a painting, ask yourself, “Do I feel comfortable?” “Is the balance or anatomy off?” “Is the movement awkward?”  ”Would the subject really move like that?”

Collecting is such a personal thing.
Some collectors,  find their “eye” develops over time, and what once caught their eye, doesn’t any more. However, there is a man who has been collecting for 40 years. I
viewed his entire collection and picked my favorite painting. When I told him which piece it was , he said, “That was the very first painting I ever bought”.  Trust what you feel.

I spent sometime at the foundry today, “chasing wax”. When the wax pieces come out of the rubber molds….they often need touching up. This is a sculpture called Trail Boss (the head).

Delivered them to Sage Creek Gallery for pre-casting…til the end of the year.
