Scott’s Piece Description

In a very subtle way…..I show the past catching up with the present. The lawman holds an old cap and ball pistol. His familiarity with the well-worn ‘tool’ makes it reliable and deadly. After months of searching…he has finally caught up with the outlaw (who holds the modern Colt .45). The desperado may sport the newer weapon, but is no match for the savvy defender of the law.

Ever heard: “The past will catch up with you”, “You reap what you sow”, “What goes around comes around”? Could there really be any truth to those sayings?

Curator Review

This striking pair of figures captures the tension of a moment suspended in time—two men, two weapons, two destinies converging. Scott Rogers’ The Law Remembers, Fate Has Been Suffered stages a compelling visual allegory: justice may be delayed, but it is not forgotten.

The lawman, steady and composed, carries a cap-and-ball pistol—outdated by modern standards, yet deadly in the hands of one who knows its power. His posture tells of experience hard-won, of patience that has outlasted escape. In contrast, the outlaw stumbles backward, surprised mid-motion, his sleek Colt .45 raised too late. His exaggerated backward lean and flailing posture evoke the chaos of being caught—not just by a man, but by the weight of past choices.

Though both figures are in motion, it is the lawman who commands the narrative. Rogers’ mastery lies in the silhouette—the confident angle of the brim, the purposeful bend in the knees, the unwavering line of the pistol. Every gesture reinforces the sculpture’s message: tools evolve, but character endures.

In Rogers’ hands, bronze becomes a medium of moral reckoning. This piece isn’t just a shootout—it’s a meditation on truth, time, and consequence.
