Scott’s Piece Description
As with many studies of passion, written or spoken words insult rather than do justice to ‘a’ describing. I pray my attempt to capture (in bronze) Flamenco’s passion, line, movement, intensity and sensuality has not been in vain. I leave the piece to speak for itself.
Curator Review
Flamenco is a study in rhythm made visible—where movement, emotion, and form converge in a single, suspended instant. In this bronze sculpture, Scott Rogers captures not just the posture of the dancer, but the pulse that drives it. The sweeping arc of the extended leg, the twist through the torso, and the expressive reach of the arms create a composition that feels both balanced and alive.
The layered ruffles of the dress are particularly striking. Rather than resting passively, they seem to echo the dancer’s motion, cascading in waves that amplify the sense of momentum. Rogers’ handling of these forms demonstrates a keen awareness of silhouette—each tier contributing to a dynamic outline that shifts with the viewer’s perspective.
There is also a quiet tension between control and abandon. The dancer’s grounded stance suggests discipline and precision, while the flowing lines of the garment and the tilt of the head hint at something more instinctive and deeply felt. This interplay gives the piece its emotional resonance.
In Flamenco, Rogers does not attempt to explain passion—he allows it to unfold through gesture, rhythm, and form. The result is a sculpture that invites the viewer not just to observe, but to feel the movement as it continues beyond the bronze.
