Scott’s Piece Description
As the wolf hunts….millions of years instinct come into play. Within his DNA, passed from generation to generation, are the seeds of survival itself. His actions aren’t even his own. It’s his ancestors that hear the snap of the twig – that sees the flash of color shouting ‘prey’. It’s his progenitors that turn into the passing breeze which carrys the faintest whisp of food.
Ever judged an animal for its’ killing to survive? Are we so different?
What do you hunt? Is it money, power, attention, sex, fame or food? Ask yourself, “What part of you does a craving come from? How deep do those cravings run? The mind is of this earth…all it knows is to survive. Ever acted in a ‘base’ way and wondered to yourself…”Why did I do that?” ”That was not me!” Perhaps, in part, it wasn’t.
Ponder a bit and compassion will fill your eyes.
Curator Review
In Forever The Hunter, Scott Rogers strips the wolf down to its elemental truth—instinct, honed by time, chiseled into form. This sculpture pulses with tension, every muscle taut, every paw mid-stride, as though answering a call deeper than consciousness. Rogers captures more than a predator—he captures a legacy. The wolf’s forward motion evokes the relentless momentum of survival, a drive etched into bone by eons of necessity.
The sculptural language here is coarse and deliberate. Rough textures suggest the rawness of life lived by tooth and scent. There’s no sentimentality—only the honesty of purpose. And yet, in confronting the primal, Rogers opens the door to introspection. What are we hunting? What inherited impulses drive us? The wolf is not so separate from man.
With this piece, Rogers invites us to look not only at the beast—but within ourselves. To wonder how far we’ve come from our origins… and how often we’re still answering ancient calls without knowing why.
