WATCHING MOMMA PICK BERRIES

I love to see American Indian infants in cradleboards. I have seen this image on rare occasions. There is something so ‘traditional’ about it.  To see such a sight takes me back in time instantly, at least a hundred years.

Indian infants were trained to be quiet. When the family was near the enemy (being attacked) or near wild animals, the least little sound could give the family or tribe away. 

I visualize with this piece a mid-summer’s day.  At the base of a mountain, on a gentle slope, the berries are in full bloom. The mother, a Cheyenne Indian, is not too far off (picking berries) with a cautious eye kept on her little one.
